Tang Prince -❀- Also New Years Announcement 唐朝王子 -❀- 新年快乐!
Tang dynasty prince hunting in casual attire. He wears a silk Yuánlǐng Shān 圆领衫 lit. "Round Collar Robe" which were worn by most male of the era decorated with ornate blossom motifs. On his waist he sports a Turkic- styled belt called Diexie 蹀躞 with many radiating decorated leather tassels. The belt also acts as a holder for the scabbard of his sword. The Tang dynasty was heavily influenced by Central Asian- namely Turkic cultures.
What a crazy trying year 2020 had been. I want to write to you all to let you know that your patience means the world to me. Like pretty much everywhere, it has not been easy here, but sometimes, knowing that there are generous and patient patrons out there, and knowing there are those who are still curious about Chinese culture and Chinese history, sometimes it literally feels like the difference between giving up or grit my teeth and keep paving on.

In the works 《越人歌》, there is a song about a beautiful Yue girl expressing her love for the Chu prince(子晰).(☆-v-)
Though the Chu prince didn't understands what she was talking about。。。 (; ᯅ ; )ノ
I admired the girl who dared to express her love to the right person, even if they didn't speak the same language.

I am not sure about this subject- at least in regards to male make up. Though it is possible they might. I will have to look deeper into this.
Although let us not discount the fact this could be a princess or a noblewoman as well- in Tang it was not uncommon that women of high birth would crossdress as men (during the Tang it was somewhat accepted) it was also not uncommon that women would participate in hunts. Because of the more liberal nature of the Tang dynasty women had significantly more autonomy than many of the later Chinese dynasties.
Stay. On. Topic.
The round collar seems reminiscent of Manchu fashions hundreds of years hence. Did this style of Turkic origin make it to Japan? since the Japanese borrowed so much from the Tang.
Have a look at Prince Shotoku of Japan who brought much of Tang culture and customs to Japan, look at his round collar robe.

Various type of Central Asian embroidery also made their way to Japan as well, including silk by Persian artists living in Sui and Tang China (or imitations based on their artworks)
On the matter of their modern identity and their embrace of Shia Islam, that's not something I have an opinion on. It's kind of their business. I have Iranian friends on many political spectrums so I defer the matter to them.
