Lovely, awesome ... and I assume 100% true to life.

Reminds me of Japanese kimonos, but more soft and sensual, as opposed to the Japanese rigidity.

Why can't Chinese historical dramas be so true to life and not be so fanciful ?? It's infuriating !!

Too true, the real deal is mind blowing. Someone like her could top modern European pageants.

One of the reasons I started my blog is because of the general crappiness of costumes and armor in most Chinese dramas. However at least in terms of fashion they have been getting better. The Netflix- partnered series "Rise of the Phoenixes" has great Tang inspired costumes for the leads, although it's set in a fantasy universe it has great production value and uses a lot of Tang costumes and Tang sets.

Rise of the Phoenixes has great production value, but is it really accurate to Tang fashions? too many buttons I think.

I really like the Tencent drama 'Secrets of the Three Kingdoms' ... the best and most accurate Han dynasty style fashions I've ever seen.

To be fair, you see the same in Western period dramas too, why can't all movie and tv directors be as meticulous and obsessive about these things like Stanley Kubrick??

Ha! Wait til I start to make my own movies.
One day, if fortunes willing, I will make some damn good ones 😉

this recreation is nice but yeah it doesn't do it quite justice. the white base dress actually made of jacquard and very fancy silk, if you look at the really high resolution painting u can see the jacquard pattern and luster and its off white not cream xD.

also we don't know how fancy the fabric was since gold jacquard weaving has also come to prominence, sure there are many option how to treat the fabric, but the most expensive remain gold thread jacquard and embroidered. so the costume has to be fancy but they just make the silhouette more accurate.

even if the drama is not accurate, they do do it justice that it is an amazingly luxurious time with many technique avaiable, there is not a lot of concubine, empress, lady painting so yeah... and what they wore in summer, spring, autumn, winter differ of course lol.
