Ming dynasty used buttoned collars? I thought that was a nomadic / Qing innovation ??

Japanese robes don't use buttons, and they are based on Chinese designs.

Ming did have buttoned collars, if you look at some of the paintings produced during the dynasty it depicted ladies with such attires. Especially towards the middle and the end of the dynasty.

So Chinese women did wear cloths with dragon motives? I thought the Dragon was a masculine symbol?

Dragon is a masculine symbol, but it's also a symbol of authority. There are plenty of paintings of noble women and royal princesses (or officer's wives) with embroidered dragon motifs on them.
