The Tang dynasty was a period where Chinese culture flourished and 

women enjoyed unprecedented amount of influence in both the politics of the

dynasty and the high culture of the realm. There were many female poets

and influential Princesses in the history of the dynasty. Their great and

ostentatious fashion are preserved on the painted cave murals at 

Dunhuang in western China- which served as inspiration

for this painting.
